THE 2020 edition of the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) has been praised for including all talents and promoting diversity. Dubbed “Business Unusual”, ZIMA awards ceremony will be conducted on January 25 next year and will be celebrating 16 years of its existence.

ZIMA CEO Reason Sibanda said 32 gongs will be awarded to different artistes in various categories vying for honours. “The categories comprise of the top five award, genre award, technical award, special award and public vote awards.

“As ZIMA, we are not a closed platform, we are open to new ideas,” said Sibanda. He added:

“For example on the issue of DJs which was put forward, I emphasise on that saying that there is no segregation be it radio DJ or a club DJ. “’We only select the best talent despite where one is based at and this is why we had to mention both.”

He further announced the ZIMA roadmap. “The opening date of these entries is slated for 11 November 2019 and the closing date will be on 31 December 2019. The adjudication has been scheduled for 1 January 2020.

“The much awaited award event will be held on 25January 2020,” he said. Representatives who graced the event include the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Director Nicholas Moyo, ZIMA CEO Sibanda, ZIMA Chairperson Joseph Nyadzayo, Zimbabwe Music Rights Association Director Polisile Ncube, Jive Zimbabwe boss Benjamin Nyandoro among others.
